TATTOO AFTERCARE

  • NOTE

For Tattoo aftercare, we use Dermor by Electrum Supplies. Below are some general steps to follow when caring for your new tattoo using Dermor.

When you are finished getting tattooed on your epic day, you will get cleaned up and the first bandage will be applied. We should have covered how to apply the Dermor, also covering these next steps:

  • STEP #1

The first bandage will be worn for 24 hours (expect a discolored plasma in the bandage during this time). When it’s time to remove the first bandage, I recommend doing so in the shower. It’s easy clean up, and the water will help remove the Dermor.

  • STEP #2

While in the shower, wash your tattoo with a fragrance-free soap using a small circular motion with your fingertips. Wash off thoroughly, making sure there is no soap left on the skin. Let the tattoo air dry or dab using clean paper towel.

  • STEP #3

Clean around the tattoo with some alcohol you have, just to remove any extra oils from skin. NO OINTMENT under the bandage.

  • STEP #4

Cut the Dermor tattoo aftercare bandage to allow at least 1 inch of Dermor to be in contact with undamaged skin. More extra room is suggested in highly mobile areas. Also, it helps to round the corners to keep it from wanting to peel up. Remember, it’s okay to use multiple pieces of Dermor cover 1/2``.

  • STEP #5

Peel off the paper backing to reveal the adhesive side.

  • STEP #6

Gently apply the bandage using light pressure. For best results, ensure that the skin and body part is in a relaxed, neutral position.

  • STEP #7

Remove the plastic backing, leaving only Dermor on the skin.

  • STEP #8

Please try to keep the second bandage on for 5 days to allow for the best results. If taking off before then you are rolling the dice and I don’t recommend it. If you do need to take the bandage off before the recommend time, please contact me for other After Care instructions.

Be careful not to bump or catch.

  • TROUBLES

Sleeping on or bumping your piercing will slow healing and cause lumps.

Hot chamomile tea bag compress soaks or sterile saline soaks reduce bumps and increases blood flow for healed piercings. Always remember to dry off your piercing!

Oral piercings that are constantly played with will rip and cause white bumpy scar tissue. Saline rinses can help to reduce bumps.

Using alcohol wipes, Dettol, bactine, listerine or any harsh products will harm your piercing, please don't use them! If you have any questions or concerns please contact your piercer!

  • HINTS AND TIPS

If your jewelry is threadless, you will not need to tighten or adjust the ends. If your jewelry is internally threaded it is a very good idea to get into the habit of checking to make sure the balls, ends, or gems are on tightly. To do this, you should first wash your hands thoroughly! Then carefully tighten clockwise.

  • NAVEL

A hard, vented eye patch (sold at pharmacies) can be applied under tight clothing (such as nylon stockings) or secured using a length of Ace® bandage around the body (to avoid irritation from adhesive). This can protect the area from restrictive clothing, excess irritation, and impact during physical activities such as contact sports.

  • EAR/EAR CARTILAGE AND FACIAL

Use the t-shirt trick: Dress your pillow in a large, clean t-shirt and turn it nightly; one clean t-shirt provides four clean surfaces for sleeping.

Maintain cleanliness of telephones, headphones, eyeglasses, helmets, hats, and anything that contacts the pierced area.

Use caution when styling your hair and advise your stylist of a new or healing piercing.

  • NIPPLES

The support of a tight cotton shirt or sports bra may provide protection and feel comfortable, especially for sleeping.

PERMANENT COSMETICS AFTERCARE

  • DAYS 1-3

Wipe your brows gently with lukewarm water on a cotton round and pat dry with a clean, dry cotton round. Repeat this every 2-3 hours. It isn’t necessary to do this at night, however it is best that you wipe your brows before you go to sleep and immediately in the morning. Always wash your hands before cleansing the area.

Do not submerge your brows in water for the first 7 days.

  • DAYS 3-10

Apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor with a q-tip for each brow, 2-3 times a day. After applying the ointment, use the clean, dry end of the q-tip to glide over your brows to ensure you are only leaving a thin layer. Be sure to wash your hands before application and apply the ointment gently, no vigorous motions.

Your brows will begin to peel in 3-5 days and last anywhere from 7-14 days.

No itching, no rubbing, no picking. To avoid infection and/or bald spots on the brow, it is important not to pick or rub at the pigment that may start to peel or flake. Let this occur naturally. Remember, it is natural for your brows to look patchy and uneven while they are peeling. Trust the process!
